Flood Forecasting Center Luxembourg

Permanent provision of measured water levels and forecasts of watercourses in Luxembourg, as well as additional information during floods.

In case of floods the flood forecasting center Luxembourg publishes alerts for three awareness levels in Luxembourg:

Information (No risk / no danger)

No provision of flood reports.

Awareness level yellow / Be aware (low risk / potential danger)

Provision of flood information and eventually of floods reports.

Awareness level orange / Be careful (medium risk / danger)

Provision of flood information and floods reports.
Update if the situation changes or at least once per day.

Awareness level red / Utmost vigilance (high risk / significant danger)

Provision of flood information and floods reports.
Update if the situation changes or at least twice per day.

The Administration de la gestion de l'eau ist the competent authority for the provision of flood forecasts in Luxembourg. In case of floods, additional information on floods and flood reports are available. These reports contain information on the current situation and the evolution of water levels. The flood reports are published under alerts.

The current water levels and forecasts can be accessed continuously. In general, water levels are updated every 15 minutes. The forecasts are calculated and published every three hours, depending on the situation an hourly update is possible. In general, the forecasts of water levels are presented with a forecast time of 24 up to maximum 48 hours. Forecasts are calculated by the Administration de gestion de l’eau and the Landesamt für Umwelt in Rhineland Palatinate.

The Administration de la gestion de l’eau is the operator responsible for the hydrometric stations in Luxembourg. The Service de la navigation fluviale is the operator responsible for the hydrometric stations on the Moselle.
